When you choose to work with a counsellor at Solace and Sanctuary, you are entering a collaborative, supportive, and confidential relationship. Our sessions are designed to help you explore your connections to self, others, and your environment, within a supported and trauma-informed framework.
Please note: Services at Solace and Sanctuary are offered within the scope of counselling practice. These sessions are not a substitute for psychiatric or medical treatment, and referrals may be made if diagnosis, medication, or specialist treatment is required.
Confidentiality and Privacy
Your privacy is important. All information you share is treated as confidential, with the following key limitations:

A reasonable belief of serious risk of harm to yourself or others

Disclosure of child or elder abuse or neglect, as required by law

A court order compelling disclosure

Service Suitability
Some sessions, especially Equine-Assisted Therapy and Animal-Assisted sessions, have specific suitability considerations. These include, but are not limited to:

Physical mobility or safety limitations

Allergies or phobias related to animals

Significant mental health instability (e.g., active psychosis or elevated suicide risk)
During your initial consultation, we will assess whether the type of session you request is safe and appropriate, and may recommend an alternative format if necessary.
Your Rights and Responsibilities
Clients are encouraged to:

Ask questions about the counselling process

Discuss goals, preferences, or concerns at any time

Participate actively in sessions
Clients also have the right to withdraw consent or discontinue sessions at any time.

If you have concerns about your sessions or service delivery, please:

Solace and Sanctuary provides counselling and equine-assisted wellbeing sessions within the scope of counselling practice. These services are not a substitute for medical, psychological, or psychiatric treatment. Where clients require diagnosis or clinical care, referral or collaboration with appropriate professionals is encouraged.
We can work alongside clients’ mental health and wellbeing care teams to support holistic goals, ensuring that our counselling and animal-assisted sessions complement any medical, psychological, or allied health care they are receiving.
