Your Counselling Journey

At Solace and Sanctuary, our work is deeply rooted in values that support healing journeys for all individuals—women, men, and children. These values guide every interaction, every session, and every moment spent together, offering a space of respect, care, and empowerment for every person who walks through our doors.

🌿 Your Counselling Journey with Solace and Sanctuary

An overview of what to expect from our time together.

  1. Beginning Together: Your Introductory Session Your first session is all about creating a gentle, supportive foundation.

We’ll start by walking through the Counselling Service Agreement/Terms and Agreements and Waivers, covering:

  • How confidentiality is protected

  • The booking and cancellation process

  • Payment options and expectations

You’re welcome to ask any questions—this is your space, and your comfort matters.

After that, you’ll be invited to share parts of your story, in a respectful honouring way, at a pace that feels right for you. This may include:

  • Your current life and family situation

  • Past experiences that may still be impacting you

  • Hopes and goals you’d like to explore through counselling

Counselling is a process, not a quick fix.

Together, we’ll identify your goals and create a flexible plan to work towards them. We’ll also book a series of 4–6 sessions in advance to build consistency, rhythm, and trust as we begin your journey. We check in every session, but more formally at the half way point, to check that the process is 'working' in supporting your goals, and to adjust those goals where needed.

  1. Growth and Healing Sessions: Supporting Your Ongoing Journey

From your second session onward, we continue through Growth and Healing Sessions—spaces dedicated to exploration, insight, and meaningful change.

Each session is tailored to you, guided by:

  • Your evolving goals

  • Your emotional needs and pace

  • Practical strategies for resilience and growth

Growth isn’t always linear. There may be easy days and hard days—and that’s okay. These sessions offer a steady, compassionate space for you to process, heal, and reconnect to your inner strength.

  1. Closing Session: Honouring Your Growth, Resilience and Readiness for Transition

When you feel ready to conclude regular counselling, we’ll meet for a Closing Session to honour your journey.

You can simply let me know by saying,

“I think I’m ready to bring counselling to a close.”

In this final session, we’ll reflect on:

  • The changes you’ve experienced

  • Shifts in your relationships, self-perception, or inner world

  • Strengths, resources, and insights you want to carry forward

It’s a time for gentle celebration—you have done meaningful, courageous work.

  1. After-Care Program: Ongoing Support, When You Need It

Healing is not a destination—it’s a living, evolving process.

The After-Care Program offers continued support, so you never have to start over or navigate new seasons alone.

Here’s how it works:

  • We pre-book two future sessions, spaced 3–6 months apart, depending on your preference.

  • About two weeks before each session, you’ll receive a reminder to confirm, cancel, or reschedule—no pressure, no obligation.

  • These sessions act as gentle check-ins—to reconnect, re-anchor, and offer support if and when you need it.

You can remain in the After-Care Program for as long as it feels supportive to you.

At Solace and Sanctuary...

You are not expected to have it all figured out.

You do not need to walk life’s challenges alone.

Here, you are met with:

  • Compassion and professional care

  • Respect for your pace, your voice, and your story

  • A deep commitment to walking alongside you—whether for a short season, or a longer journey

You are welcome here.

Acknowledgment of Country

Solace and Sanctuary would like to acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia’s First People and Traditional Custodians. We value their cultures, identities, and their continuing connection to country, waters, kin, and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, recognizing their profound connection to country and their role as the first true storytellers and waymakers, living in harmony with nature.

We specifically acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, the Quandamooka People, and we extend our respects to First Nations culture and peoples, including their Elders past, present, and emerging. We recognize their ongoing connection to land, waters, and culture, and we honor the invaluable contributions they make to our community.

At Solace and Sanctuary, we are committed to making a positive impact on the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by providing services that are welcoming, safe, culturally appropriate, and inclusive.

Solace and Sanctuary is committed to embracing diversity and eliminating all forms of discrimination in the provision of health services. We welcome all people irrespective of ethnicity, lifestyle choice, faith, sexual orientation and gender identity.
